This document has information about winter-term enrolment, and important dates.
Winter 2017 Enrolment
Recently, the College may have sent you an email message, with a date and time for an "early enrolment window". Here is an excerpt from a typical message:
If you did not receive this kind of message, then you will simply have to wait until the open enrolment day-and-time, December 7 at 8:00am.
We advise you to check whether you have been "activated" for the winter academic term. How? Check your status in the Student Center app:
- On the "academics" tab, click your program, and the desired academic term (if it appears)
- Look for "Eligible to Enroll: Yes"
If the desired academic term is not on the list, or "Eligible to Enroll" is "No", then check one more thing: Have you paid all fees for the current/past term? The system will block future enrolment if fees are owing. However, if fees are paid, then, contact your coordinator or advisor, and ask to be activated.
What happens if you cannot enrol during your "early enrolment window"?
First, don't panic.
Then, follow the procedure in the message excerpt above.
Or, simply wait until the open enrolment day-and-time, December 7 at 8:00am.
Please be aware that your advisor or program coordinator is unable to help you add classes during the "early enrolment window" periods. The system that we use does not have any special or extraordinary capabilities. The only task that we can help with is to advise the Registration office that you can be "activated" for the winter term. If you need that, please contact your advisor or coordinator by email (yes, we can do this task "activation" by email), or by visiting the office.
What happens if the class section that you want or need is full?
First, don't panic.
Then, please choose another class section.
Alternatively, check periodically, as a seat may become available.
After the fall-term grades are released on December 23, more seats may become available, so check again then.
If you need the class for progress or graduation reasons, send an email to your program coordinator, and ask for help. Please do not expect an immediate resolution - it may take several days or weeks to handle the request - but it will be handled as soon as possible, and before the winter term classes begin.
If the class section is a pro option, then it's possible that your request will be added to a wait list for that course. Similar to above, send email to your program coordinator, and the request will be handled as soon as possible, before the winter term begins.
Problems adding a class and the "Permission" error message
The Student Center app will not allow a student to add a Level 1 class to their timetable. This is by design, for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, the system's error message is not useful, and tells you that you need a permission of some kind.
To solve this problem, simply contact your program coordinator or Brenda Baker.
The Student Center app will show the York-campus general education (and liberal studies) electives. If you wish to add an elective that is hosted at a different campus (Newnham, King, Markham), then please contact the School of English and Liberal Studies coordinator, Anna Ainsworth.
Exam week begins on December 12
The fall-term exam week begins on December 12. More information is here.
Final grades available on December 23
Final grades for the Fall 2016 academic term will be available on Friday, December 23, 2016.
Important: Please generate and read your Advising Transcript. It may have additional information about your academic standing, and eligibility to continue in your program. This how-to video will show you how to generate an advising transcript. Make sure that you choose "Advising Transcript" from the "Report Type" drop-down menu.
If you have a question or concern about a final grade in a class, please do the following, in sequence:
- Review the detailed grades on Blackboard/My.Seneca.
- If you still have a question or concern, contact the professor.
Please note the following: Your professor, advisor, or program coordinator will not be available to discuss a final grade until the College re-opens on January 3, 2017. If you attempt contact before that time, please do not expect an answer. It may happen, but it may not. Your request will be handled as soon as possible.

The College will be closed, starting at 12:00pm on December 23. It will re-open at 9:00am on January 3. School of ICT faculty and staff will resume work on January 3. Please be patient, as we work through our request queue.
